All Party Parliamentary Disability Group meeting

13 February 2013

Passenger Focus was pleased to attend the All Party Disability Group meeting on ‘transport and disabled people: realising independence and full participation’ at Portcullis House, on 11 Feb 2013. It was a great opportunity to set up our stand, and share our research with people.

There was a good deal of interest in our work including our report on the experiences of disabled rail passengers, and research presentations on the experiences of bus and rail passengers with disabilities.

We had the opportunity to talk to disabled passengers, organisations representing disabled people and commercial transport companies. Parliamentarians were also present, and the Transport Minister gave the opening address.

In the question and answer session, matters raised included the difficulty of using scooters on public transport, getting assistance and information at stations, bus driver training and changes in benefits leading to reduced access to transport for many disabled people.
