Is busiest best?

10 May 2012

Taking account of the number of passengers who use particular stations Passenger Focus has used its National Passenger Survey and other research to see what passengers think of Britain’s busiest stations. Paddington (86%), Liverpool Street (86%), Charing Cross (83%), Victoria (82%) and Euston (81%) come out okay. Birmingham New Street (64%) and Clapham Junction (66%) need attention.

Anthony Smith, Passenger Focus chief executive, said: “As passenger numbers increase stations may struggle to cope and passenger satisfaction will suffer – it is essential that long-term planning takes these increases into account.

“Many busy stations cope well with the huge ebb and flow of passengers every day, but others clearly need attention. Birmingham New Street is being re-built, but Clapham Junction seems stuck in the sidings as there are no firm development plans.”

As you will see from the table below, only one of Britain’s 10 busiest stations* features in the top 10 of larger stations with the highest scores for passenger satisfaction.
