Labour Shadow Rail White Paper – Transport Focus comment

Commenting on Labour’s Shadow Rail White Paper, Transport Focus chief executive Anthony Smith, said:

“A stable rail industry is most pressing now for passengers and for the wider economy – train operators must survive to keep vital services running in these challenging times and get back up and running again as soon as the coronavirus outbreak is over.

“Passengers tell Transport Focus they want a railway that is more accountable and simple to use. However the railway is structured, it must work for passengers. The acid test of any changes to the railway will be when passengers tell us they are satisfied with the reliability of trains and get better value for money.”

Transport Focus welcomes the opportunity the Williams Rail Review and Rail White Paper provides to reform the railway and the fares and ticketing system. Transport Focus is working to ensure the voice of passengers is placed at the heart of the White Paper.
