Open access consulation

18 December 2018

Commenting on the Office of Rail and Road’s open access consultation, David Sidebottom director at Transport Focus, said:

“Passengers tell us that what matters to them most are value for money fares on punctual, frequent trains where they can get a seat. Open access services have the potential to provide an injection of competition and innovation into the rail industry.

“Overall the benefits of more services and potentially better-value fares is good news for passengers, but it’s important that the extra choice doesn’t lead to extra complexity on an already confusing system.”

Background

Open access operator National Rail Passenger Survey scores:

Hull Trains: 87%

Grand Central: 95%
