Passengers welcome national bus strategy

30 September 2019

Commenting on the announcement of a national bus strategy and new ‘Superbus’ networks Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, said:

“Nearly half of passengers we talk to in England say the bus is the only real means of transport available to them, so passengers will welcome hearing more detail on how the investment will benefit them.

“Our research tells us passengers want a frequent, punctual and reliable service that offers value for money. Better passenger information, low-fare networks and new express lanes are welcome steps to help encourage more people to Give Bus a Go.

“It’s vital that bus services are built around passenger needs and that their views and aspirations are at the heart of future Superbus networks.”

Notes to editors

Almost nine in 10 passengers using buses were satisfied with their last journey in the latest Bus Passenger Survey. Satisfaction with punctuality ranged from 83 per cent to 60 per cent.

Through the Give Bus a Go campaign Transport Focus is working in the West Midlands to encourage more people in the region to make journeys by bus.
