Latest crowding figures – Passenger Focus response

10 September 2014

Commenting on the Department for Transport’s latest rail crowding figures, David Sidebottom, Passenger Focus director, said:

“Overcrowding is a daily struggle for many commuters. Our latest rail passenger survey found that 30 per cent of commuters were unhappy about overcrowding on their train.

“We welcome the minister’s challenge to train companies in the short term, but in the long term we need a big increase in capacity. This means continued investment in new and longer trains to meet existing demand, as well as ensuring that overcrowding doesn’t get worse as passenger numbers increase as predicted.”
