New East Coast operator announced
27 November 2014
Today the Department for Transport has announced a new operator for the East Coast railway, from March 2015.
The new operator is Inter City Railways, a consortium of Virgin and Stagecoach.
Passenger Director David Sidebottom said:
“Passengers travelling on the East Coast will welcome knowing who will be running their services from March. Inter City Railways will inherit a business that passengers tell us they rate highly, but there is still room for improvement.
“We provided the bidders for this contract with evidence of what passengers most want, including better value for money, more seats available, more frequent trains, better punctuality and to be kept properly informed when there are delays.
“What passengers will want now is to hear how the improvements announced today will affect their journeys.”
East Coast’s current overall satisfaction rating, in our National Rail Passenger Survey for Spring 2014, is 91 per cent.
