Intercity Express Programme (IEP) – Passenger Focus responds to the Department for Transport’s statement
25 July 2012
Anthony Smith, Passenger Focus chief executive, said:
“Passengers will welcome the news that the arrival of these new trains has moved a step closer. The new trains, coupled with last week’s news about electrification, should not only mean new, faster trains, but also more seating. This will help to match passengers’ priorities for improvement as shown by our research.
“Attention will now shift to the internal layout of the new trains. This will dictate the amount of space for passengers and their luggage. Passenger Focus has already carried out detailed research into the needs of passengers and we look forward to continuing this work with the successful bidders of the new franchises.
“We will now study the detail of the announcement to get a fuller understanding of what it will mean for passengers.”
