Passenger Focus welcomes new trains

18 July 2013

Today the Department for Transport announced that it is going ahead with the order of additional Intercity Express Programme (IEP) trains for the East Coast line.

Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Passenger Focus, said:
“Passengers will be pleased to hear that the additional trains are now on order. As well as adding more seats, this should improve the reliability of the East Coast route and reduce time and costs for repairs now that all the fleet is the same. It is critical that Hitachi continues its efforts to involve passengers in the design of the new carriages.”
