Passenger Voice April 2016: Shaw report into the future of Network Rail

04 April 2016

How do we run, maintain and develop Britain’s railway for the future and make the best improvements for passengers?

Nicola Shaw has produced her final report into the longer-term future of Network Rail outlining a number of recommendations.

The report calls for more decisions to be made locally within Network Rail, with more power given to the regional routes and it recommends that routes are more directly accountable to passengers. It also calls for a new Network Rail route for the North to be created, sitting alongside Transport for the North.

We are pleased to see that the Shaw report provides a strong focus on keeping passengers’ needs at the heart of the railway. Our research tells us that passengers want a clear sense of who is in charge – but most of all, they want improved day-to-day reliability.
