Passenger Voice October 2015: Hearing your views

01 October 2015

Autumn is upon us once more and so Transport Focus is beginning its autumn series of passenger surveys. We carry out the National Rail Passenger Survey (NRPS) across Great Britain and the Bus and Tram Passenger Surveys in many parts of England and Scotland.

Passengers are given the opportunity to complete the questionnaire either on paper or online. Our researchers will be on trains, trams, buses and at rail stations during September, October and November, encouraging passengers to take part in the surveys.

If you are approached, do please take the opportunity to join in. If you are approached on more than one journey, that’s OK, we’d like to hear about each of the journeys, as each can be a different experience.

We’re aiming to gather feedback on around 30,000 train journeys, 40,000 bus journeys and 5,000 tram journeys by the time the surveys end in late November.

We collect passenger opinions of services from a representative sample of journeys, including commuter and off-peak services. Our surveys look to provide a detailed picture of all aspects of passengers’ journeys. The NRPS for example looks at passengers’ overall satisfaction and satisfaction with 30 different aspects of your train service.

Train, bus and tram companies, local authorities and government pay close attention to the surveys’ results. Our passenger surveys help us better understand the issues that matter to you and provide the evidence to seek improvements on behalf of passengers.

Look out for an article in our next edition, where you can hear about a day in the life of a passenger survey researcher.
