Road User Voice – October 2015 – Road meets rail
30 October 2015
As part of our regular meetings with Highways England we headed to Birmingham to discuss road users’ experiences on major roads.
This month we heard about how High Speed 2 (HS2) will affect road users during construction work where the railway crosses the road network. As the ‘High Speed Rail (London – West Midlands) Bill’ makes progress through Parliament, Highways England told us about its work with HS2 Ltd to understand how plans are progressing and what this means for the company and road users.
As the road user watchdog, Transport Focus is keen to understand how the impact on road users will be minimised during construction of HS2. We were pleased to hear specific examples of a constructive working relationship developing between Highways England and HS2 Ltd. We will continue to keep HS2 developments that will affect road users firmly in our sights as the project progresses.
