The Intercity Express Programme (iep) is a government sponsored project to design, build and maintain new trains for use on the East Coast Main Line, Great Western Main Line and West Coast Main Line (south) between 2013 and 2020. The objective is to provide new express trains for these routes with higher passenger capacity, better performance and modern control systems.
