Transport User Voice July 2025 – Making great bus journeys

14 July 2025

Westminster bus event

As the Bus Services (No 2) Bill passes through the Committee Stage in the House of Commons, and recent funding in the recent Spending Review, an expectation that bus services will improve for passengers has been sparked.

So, what makes a great bus journey? Using insight from over 48,000 journeys, Your Bus Journey survey results shine a spotlight on the transport authorities and operators that are delivering high levels of satisfaction. This insight helps others begin to understand what ‘better ‘looks like in the push to improve services in their own areas.

The survey, which is in its third year, has expanded to include both Scotland and Wales with the latest results published back in March. We were able to share these results with Members of Parliament at a drop-in event we held this month in order to help MPs better understand the experience of bus passengers both in their area and across the country.

With live demonstrations from our Insight team using our Data Hub, we were able to provide a granular picture of the passenger experience across different local authorities. This insight was also compared with the 2023 survey results as we start to notice improvements to overall satisfaction results from authorities such as East Sussex County Council and Nottingham City Council.

Louise Collins, Director at Transport Focus, speaking on the event:

“It’s clear that buses are a hot topic for people across the country, whether because they think buses are great or they feel that more and better services are needed. We were pleased to be able to share details of our Your Bus Journey survey and show how it can measure where interventions are having a positive impact or highlight where more work is needed.”

Transport Focus has shared our data with all MPs, and we hope to see even more authority areas covered in the future as we strive towards greater bus journeys for all.
