Margate mystery

10 December 2014

While the headline grabbing statistic is that Waterloo is Britain’s busiest station as you work down the list some interesting questions arise.

Margate is the 735th in the list. Yes, its quite a way from London, some 74 miles, so not exactly prime commuting territory, but it is sizeable town – 54,000 souls. You can use the pricey Javelin services on High Speed One or go on the slower cheaper old route. So some choice.

It has its share of social problems and has suffered in the general neglect of our coastal towns. But it also has a good beach and does have the Turner Gallery. The Turner has exceeded its projected visitor figures.

You might expect Margate to be busier than Totnes or Barrow in Furness. Good road links might be offering travellers a good choice. Do readers have any ideas?
