Preston bus station to go? But do bus passengers care?

Having an ‘iconic’ building in your town can be a curse. The listed-building status can slow sensible things happening and Preston bus station is a good example. There are plans swirling round to knock down this 1960 brutalist building which has lot of fans in the architecture world. But does it work for passengers? Would they be better served by a new building? I have not had the chance to see the bus station in action but would like to know.
