Protected upbringing

25 November 2010

I have led a sheltered passenger life. For years I have had an annual season ticket and the Gold Card that comes with it – already paid for zones one to three and a third off leisure fares made my usual run to my dad’s in Sevenoaks under £5 one way off peak – good value. Now our office has moved I am on pay as go for the non-cyling days. That means I pay full whack – £9.30 single – ouch! I could get to Manchester for less than that. Rail fares can be pricey and London and the South East pays the most and this is before the next fare rises. Rail is really going to have to deliver if it is going to stay competitive at these prices…
