Reading or not

11 October 2011

Getting to Reading always baffles me. Trains from Paddington go to Cornwall, South Wales, Bristol and all points west. There is always a massive crush at Paddington to get everyone on, but then many people get off at Reading. If there was a fast, dedicated electric service to Reading (‘Reading Express’?) then Reading passengers could use that – a bit like a Heathrow Express for Reading. The long-distance trains could then get moving, still stopping to pick up at Reading, but the mad crush might be lessened. Seems like airport passengers are very well served, but Reading passengers are squashed up – hopefully new investment plans will mean space for all?
