Tatty Trains Contest

16 May 2012

Wow, I thought I had seen some tatty trains in my time, but a journey last Saturday on a Greater Anglia slow train up to Bishop’s Stortford was a real eye-opener. The train was an old British Rail Class 317. Really grotty outside, but the inside! Bashed, scraped, tired – the carpet was a threadbare! Shame – there is evidence of investment in stations on the route, some new trains on the Stansted fast trains, but Greater Anglia passengers deserve better than this. We seem to have a habit as a country of grinding our assets into the ground before we replace. Hopefully these will be refurbished in the next couple of years.
