What do car parking charges tell you about the state of the world?

24 June 2014

There is a big open-air car park opposite our office building on Store Street in Manchester. It is about a 10-minute walk from Piccadilly Gardens and only a couple of minutes from the station. It is usually pretty full, but there are often a few spaces left. The site was to have flats and a hotel built on it but the recession finished that off as an idea.

What is interesting is the way the price fluctuates – now it is £2.90 to park all day. I cannot remember it ever being more than £3.50. A stark illustration of the choices people have for coming into Manchester.
