Transport Focus response to National Audit Office report into local bus services in England
27 June 2025
Louise Collins, Director at the independent passenger watchdog Transport Focus, commenting on the National Audit Office report into local bus services in England said:
“We welcome the National Audit Office’s report into local bus services in England, and the efforts to ensure government investment drives positive outcomes for passengers.
We know that buses matter to people – with more than 4 billion journeys made across Great Britain last year. They help us connect to work and education, to families and friends, to hospital appointments and leisure activities.
Any plan will need to include a strong collaborative approach by the bus services sector, local authorities and government to understand performance, deal with emerging issues and ensure investment is targeted in the best way to make a positive difference for local bus users.
Our annual Your Bus Journey survey provides independent insight on 48,000 journeys in England, Scotland and Wales and is already helping inform decisions made by governments, local transport authorities, bus partnerships and bus operators. We will continue to support the sector in helping them to drive positive change for bus passengers.”
