Transport User Voice February 2026 – What makes a great bus journey?

New results to be published
More than 4 billion passenger journeys were made by bus across Great Britain last year – but how satisfied were passengers? More than 45,000 passengers have had their say on their bus journey as the third year of our Your Bus Journey survey is published in the coming weeks.
The Your Bus Journey survey, which launched in 2023, intends to build a picture of bus passenger satisfaction over the next decade and build on the insights of the previous Bus Passenger Survey.
Once again, we’ve worked with transport authorities, bus partnerships and the bus industry to find innovative ways to report on bus passengers’ experiences – including value for money, the bus stop and the bus driver.
As in 2024, the data had been collected continuously throughout 40 – 44 weeks of the year. We will be using this data to undertake detailed analysis – spotting trends in the data and understanding how small changes impact customer satisfaction.
Last year’s results built on the established initial benchmark for bus passenger satisfaction and improved to an impressive 83 per cent across 45 areas of England and Scotland providing robust, comparable results for future years.
Done right buses can offer affordable and accessible ways to travel. Indeed more people travelling by bus grows the economy, keeps the roads moving smoothly, and benefits the environment. With so much at stake it makes sense to listen to the people using bus and understand their perspective.
