Passengers welcome South West Trains Waterloo compensation

18 August 2017

David Sidebottom, Director, responded to the announcement that South West Trains monthly and annual season ticket holders will have two weeks of free travel in compensation for inconvenience during the Waterloo works. He said:

“Passengers will welcome this recognition that the service into Waterloo hasn’t been what they’d paid for, particularly after Tuesday’s derailment. Transport Focus has said all along that offering no compensation to season ticket holders during the Waterloo works was unfair. It will address some of the frustration passengers have felt. We are pleased that, belatedly, the railway has listened.”

In a recent Transport Focus survey, some passengers expressed their frustration, in quotes such as:

“I’ve had to leave for work earlier every day since the works started with no reduction to my travel fare.”

“Please tell season ticket holders that they will get compensation, don’t hide behind regulation.”
