Rail fares increase for 2018 – Wales response

05 December 2017

Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, said:

“A chill wind will blow down Welsh platforms in January as rail fare increases bite. Many passengers face stagnant or falling incomes while rail fares continue to climb.

“While the competition for a new operator for the Wales and Borders service should bring benefits to passengers, passengers today are still suffering delays, cancellations and crowding.  Passengers’ immediate priorities are clear: a more reliable railway, better handling of disruption and better value for money.”
