A shorter window to plan rail travel?

25 April 2023

The rail industry is proposing to change timetable planning rules, to provide timetables eight weeks ahead of travel rather than the current 12.

Anthony Smith, chief executive of Transport Focus, the voice of Britain’s transport users, said: “This could be bad news for passengers and potential passengers. It could give people less time to see if train is an option for them and to buy a cheaper Advance ticket. Is nailing down the timetable eight weeks ahead rather than three months really the way to win more passengers to the railway?”

Transport Focus will respond to the consultation to spell out the impact on transport users, and will publish this on the website in due course.
