Calling lorry drivers – help us to help you
02 November 2021
“Drivers are not offered the facilities they demand or indeed deserve… Why would anyone choose a career that in a number of cases treats them as a second-class citizen?”
That’s what we heard when we started looking into facilities for lorry drivers more than five years ago.
Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, said:
“Lorry drivers are key workers who have kept us in essential food and medicine supplies throughout the last 18 months. We have long known that facilities were an issue, and that it was putting people off working in the sector.
“We welcome the Government’s intention to invest in improvements. Better facilities, including showers and toilets, will undoubtedly help support the heroic men and women behind the wheel.”
Transport Focus is running a survey for all lorry drivers to find out which existing roadside services, including truck stops, would benefit most from better showers, toilets and areas for drivers to rest.
If you are a lorry driver or know someone who is, please take part using this link. The survey closes at 9am on Wednesday 17 November.
