Direct trains to Blackpool and Shrewsbury: Passenger Focus response to regulator’s decision
31 July 2013
Today (Wednesday 31 July) the Office of Rail Regulation announced a decision not to approve plans for additional rail services to Blackpool and Shrewsbury on the West Coast Main Line.
Responding to the decision, Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Passenger Focus, said:
“Passengers will be disappointed to hear that the promised direct services to and from London to Blackpool and Shrewsbury will not start.
“Our research shows that more frequent services are always among rail passengers’ top priorities for improvement, and underlines the need to keep opening up rail capacity to allow more people to choose rail travel.”
