Face coverings on rail – Transport Focus comment
28 September 2020
Today the rail industry launches a trial of a scheme to encourage more people to wear face coverings (unless exempt) while using the railway.
Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, said:
“Our research with current and would-be rail users has consistently shown that there is concern about other people not wearing face coverings and the rules not being enforced. This is frequently mentioned by those who have not yet travelled as a reason for feeling anxious about the safety of making a journey. They will welcome this new scheme to help educate people and enforce the rules. The industry must continue to do all it can to restore public confidence and encourage people back onto public transport.”
