How safe do women feel while making journeys?
14 December 2021
How safe do you feel when onboard buses, trains or trams? What about when you drive, walk or cycle?
Transport Focus is asking for women’s experiences to help the ‘transport champions’ Laura Shoaf and Anne Shaw (chief executive of West Midlands Combined Authority, and interim managing director of Transport for West Midlands).
The transport champions are working with the Department for Transport and others to identify safety improvements across the country’s transport networks. This is part of the wider Violence Against Women And Girls strategy by the Home Office.
They will produce a report in January 2022, including recommendations to improve safety on the network, with Transport Focus findings feeding into this.
Linda McCord, senior stakeholder manager at Transport Focus, said:
“Transport should be safe and accessible to all. This work will help break down barriers to people making journeys – and of course making it safer for women and girls also makes it safer for other groups too.
“We talk to thousands of transport users each year and our expert knowledge, plus the findings of this latest survey, will give an in-depth view of what happens now and what should change.”
The survey has now closed.
The findings will be published when the report is out in January.
