Transport User Voice – Keeping users at the heart of transport
28 March 2017
Anniversaries are a time to reflect. And, as the independent transport watchdog, we have been striving for the best deal for transport users for nearly 70 years.
So it was welcome to hear the Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling MP speak at our reception. He spoke to guests from across different sectors about the importance of our role in keeping users at the heart of transport. He urged us to keep ‘biting at the heels’ of the Department for Transport.
The event enabled us to reflect on the work we have done and the way our role has changed. But we have spoken to one million rail passengers since 1999; a quarter of a million bus passengers since 2009; 20,000 tram passengers since 2013; and 15,000 users of the Strategic Road Network since 2015.
But the new survey in our suite of surveys will be the Strategic Road User Survey. This year we plan to speak to 20,000 road users about their satisfaction with the Strategic Road Network in England.
Things in transport have changed over 70 years. But we strive to make a difference for the passenger and road user, whatever the circumstances. We will continue to focus on the user with our evidence to make a difference to them.
