The King’s Speech

Alex Robertson, Chief Executive of Transport Focus – the independent transport watchdog welcomed the proposals set out in the King’s Speech this week:

“We welcome the new public transport proposals outlined in the King’s Speech. They provide significant and ambitious opportunities to improve the experience for both rail and bus passengers.

The Rail Reform and the Passenger Railway Service (Public Ownership) Bills are key to rebuilding the confidence of the public in rail travel. Passengers want and deserve a punctual and reliable railway that delivers on the timetable’s promise at an acceptable price.

We’re pleased to see that the Better Buses Bill will support the improvements needed in bus services and provide opportunities to increase bus use and develop a quality network for local communities.

We’ll continue to work closely with Government and our many stakeholders to ensure the voice of the transport user and their interests are at the heart of change.”
