New assistance app for disabled rail passengers
28 September 2018
A new app has been developed to help ease train travel for disabled rail passengers across the country.
Commenting on its development, chief executive of Transport Focus Anthony Smith said:
“The application of technology to make travel easier by improving the reliability and responsiveness of passenger assistance is a welcome step. But for passengers to see the benefits of this, there will still need to be enough trained staff on hand in the right places to help as requested – and at short notice – to prevent unnecessary difficulties.
“When arrangements for passenger assistance go wrong the impact can be disproportionate on the wellbeing of travellers who rely on this service. Our own research on Passenger Assist showed that while passengers find the current system easy to book, too often the service itself was not provided as requested, or at all, and information was poor.”
