Passenger Voice February 2016: You and your train company

29 January 2016

West Midlands consultation

Take this opportunity to have your say on the future of rail services in the West Midlands. The Department for Transport (DfT) has launched a consultation seeking the views of the public and stakeholders. You can find more details about the consultation, which runs until the 22 March, by clicking here.

Transport Focus will be responding to the consultation and will draw on our research exploring the views of London Midland passengers.

South Western

In January we published the findings of our recent research amongst South West Trains passengers. This research found that passengers reported some positive aspects, but also identified the following key areas as requiring improvement:

  • not enough space to sit on trains
  • information provision, particularly during disruption
  • the types of ticket available
  • on-board experience
  • station improvements and modernisation.

You can read a summary of the findings here.

A DfT consultation into the future of South Western rail services closes on 9 February. You will be able to see our response to the consultation on our website.

CrossCountry

Transport Focus has been talking to the DfT and the current operator about the potential further contract to be negotiated for the period October 2016 – October 2019.

We have carried out research to find out what passengers think about current services and what they expect for the future. We’ve also submitted a short paper setting out some of the priorities we think need to be considered in the new contract. Both of these documents will be published on our website shortly.
