Progress with the Road Investment Strategy – Transport Focus response
22 March 2017
Responding to the National Audit Office report on progress with the Road Investment Strategy, Transport Focus chief executive Anthony Smith, said:
“Long-term plans and investment are important and welcome but road users will be disappointed to hear that some of the promised improvements to England’s motorways and major ‘A’ roads could be delayed or dropped.
“In tackling this, Government and Highways England must be transparent with road users about which of the 112 projects will be delayed or won’t now go ahead.
“If Highways England are to maintain road users’ trust in future, the impression mustn’t be given that particular improvements are definitely going to happen before sufficient work has been done to properly understand the costs and benefits.”
