Rail passenger numbers July-September – Transport Focus comment

10 December 2020

Commenting on the Q2 (July to September) 2020-21 rail passenger usage data released by the Office of Rail and Road today, Transport Focus director David Sidebottom said:

“As passenger numbers grew in the summer months, particularly for leisure trips, so too did perceptions of safety. The number of people telling us they didn’t feel safe using public transport fell, and the majority of rail passengers in this period were satisfied with the journeys they made. Of course, our research shows that non-essential journeys have subsequently dropped again in line with new restrictions.

“Travel to work remained fairly static from July to September. Many commuters are telling us they expect to work from home more in future and that they would like to see different types of tickets that reflect this.”
