Smart tickets on the rise

14 October 2019

Commenting on the Rail Delivery Group announcement that more passengers are opting for smart tickets Transport Focus chief executive Anthony Smith, said:

“We know that passengers like the convenience of mobile tickets and smartcards but train operators must help make the switch from traditional paper tickets easy and simple to understand.

“As the number of people working part-time rises, Britain’s fares and ticketing system must adapt to suit the way we travel now – smart tickets can help meet the needs of today’s passengers. Fundamental fares reform will help make this happen.”

Background

Transport Focus’s National Rail Passenger Survey found 92 per cent rated the ease of purchase of mobile bar code tickets as good. While it was 84 per cent for traditional paper tickets.
