Southern Rail fined for poor performance – Transport Focus response

Anthony Smith, Chief Executive of the transport user watchdog Transport Focus, commenting on Southern’s fine for poor performance, said:

“This fine on Southern will take some of the sting out of the months of frustration many passengers have felt as a result of problems created by poor performance in addition to poor planning, industrial action and the effect of improvement works. These have all been laid bare by the recent Gibb Report. It is good that those who have suffered should feel the benefit of the fine money rather than it simply going back into Government coffers with the focus on improving performance and disruption management.

“However with more industry action looming and knock on effects from the August Waterloo works means there might be.more pain to come.”
