Strikes on Northern set to seriously affect services this weekend
24 August 2018
Anthony Smith, chief executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, said today:
“With Northern set to provide less than 30 per cent of its usual services during the strike this weekend, passengers in the North of England should plan their rail journeys carefully and consider using other forms of travel.
“Passengers are likely to face delays and overcrowding, especially with bank holiday events scheduled across the region.
“RMT strike action affecting Northern passengers is now planned for every Saturday for the next six weeks. A six day a week railway is just not good enough. This dispute has dragged on for well over a year, meanwhile trust in the railway has been hammered by the timetable crisis. It’s vital that all parties sort this out before passengers face even more disruption.”
