Transport Focus appoints new chief executive

Alex Robertson has been appointed chief executive of Transport Focus and will take up the post on 1 December 2023.
Alex’s appointment follows a highly competitive recruitment process, Alex joins from the Pensions Ombudsman where he has been Chief Operating Officer since 2020.
This appointment follows the earlier announcement that Anthony Smith would be stepping down at the end of 2023.
Alex impressed during the selection process with his wide-ranging experience, passion for the needs of the transport user and vision for the future development of Transport Focus as an even more effective voice for the transport user.
Announcing the appointment, chair of Transport Focus, Nigel Stevens, said:

I look forward to working with him as we seek to ensure Transport Focus continues to be a powerful voice for the transport user, championing the needs of today’s user and influencing the policy decisions for the future.”
Commenting on his appointment, Alex Robertson said:

Alex spent over five years at Transport for London early in his career working in policy and public affairs. After a brief spell in the voluntary sector, he moved to the Electoral Commission where he was Director of Communications and the Programme Director for the Scottish Referendum (2014) and EU Referendum (2016). Prior to his current role, he was the Executive Director for Strategy and Operations with the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman.
