Transport User Voice – April 2020 – London King’s Cross closure

27 March 2020

Tell passengers early and often

London King’s Cross station shut over the August bank holiday in 2019 to allow for engineering works on the East Coast Main Line. We worked with Network Rail to make sure passengers were given the information they needed throughout and for the closure to have minimal impact on them. You can read the full report here.

While the results were largely positive there is still much that could have been improved on. Mainly, that passengers were not told earlier the station would be shut and the requirement to have a timetable in place up to 12 weeks in advance was not met.

The East Coast Main Line project is ongoing and we have been, and will continue to be, there to see how following closures go. We want to see better information earlier so passengers are able to plan their journeys. While passengers got the message eventually this is something Network Rail must get right in future.
