Surprising insights and team triumphs

The main event this month was the publication of our Your Bus Journey survey results. A huge amount of work went in over the last 18 months to set up the survey, and collect, collate and publish the results. It was a great team effort – our Senior Insight Advisor Robert Pain deserves a particular mention. And it was only possible thanks to the support of transport authorities and operators in the 35 areas the report covered. It was particularly good to see high engagement with the results when they were published, and not just in the areas that had done well.

When I read the results, I expected to find a clear difference between higher and lower performing areas based on geography, with greater levels of reliability and satisfaction on less congested roads outside cities. So, I was surprised to see that of the top ten areas, half were urban and the remainder rural or semi-rural. Geography plays a part, but not as much as you might think.

Our role is not just publishing research, but ensuring it is used to make a difference. The results suggest there is a lot that can be done to improve services if good practise is shared. We’ll be doing further analysis and setting up workshops to help with this. Please get in touch with the team if you’d like to be involved.

And finally, a big shout out to Yvonne Fox-Burmby who made it onto the Passenger Transport Ones to Watch list for 2024. Yvonne is a great colleague – collaborative, makes things happen and fun to work with. It’s no surprise she made it onto the list. Well done Yvonne!
