Transport User Voice April 2024 – Meet Yvonne Fox-Burmby

One to watch
This month marked International Women’s Day – a global day to celebrate the achievements of women. So, we wanted to take the opportunity to recognise Yvonne Fox-Burmby, one of our Stakeholder Managers.
Yvonne took her place among the stars of the transport industry this year, featuring in Passenger Transport magazine’s Ones to Watch list for 2024. It is a great achievement and is testament to the difference she makes for transport users.
Yvonne joined Transport Focus in 2017, after leaving a third sector social enterprise programme manager role in Greater Manchester.
“I’ve always been a strong advocate for providing people with better outcomes and delivering the best service you can – whatever the job and whatever the industry.
“As a Stakeholder Manager working with Northern and TransPennine Express, my job is to represent the customer. I work with both train operators and help to influence change that improves the customer experience” says Yvonne.
The job is a varied one, and it certainly keeps her busy – from attending meetings with stakeholders one day, to being out on the rail network observing disruption the next!
“I really enjoy what I do. One of my favourite parts is working collaboratively with the teams at the train operating companies. I feel proud knowing my feedback is making a difference to customers, whilst also understanding the day-to-day challenges the train operator faces.”
She also works closely with the Transpennine Route Upgrade team, using her knowledge from being out in the field to influence decisions that affect passengers, and ensuring that future investment focuses on transport users.
“I firmly believe that everyone involved in planning for engineering work, or providing a service, should be out in the field experiencing it exactly as their customers do” she said.
When asked about making the list, Yvonne said:
“I was completely blown away to be featured, it is nice knowing that the job I’m doing has been recognised and appreciated. There are some seriously talented people on the list and it’s a privilege to be amongst them.”
