Transport User Voice – December 2021 – Our latest Board meeting

29 November 2021

Focusing on West Yorkshire

What does the future hold for transport in West Yorkshire?

Earlier this month our Board met in public to look at transport in the West Yorkshire region.

Speakers from the worlds of rail, bus and road shared their insight into current developments. We also looked at future plans, discussed how the recovery from Covid-19 is going as well and considered how sustainability will feature.

The meeting was opened by councillor Kim Groves, chair of Transport at West Yorkshire Combined Authority. She outlined the vision of transport in the region.

Permanent Secretary at the Department for Transport, Bernadette Kelly, outlined the £830 million funding that has been awarded to the region and noted that improving the experience of people using transport was a key priority. She explained that investments are being made to improve roadside facilities and working conditions for HGV drivers to combat any shortage. She always talked about electric cars and the fact that users must have confidence that charging services are in place. She then answered questions from both the Board and the public.
