Transport User Voice November 2024 – Train delays and cancellations

01 November 2024

Seeking reassurances ahead of winter

Will train services be on time and reliable in the coming months as we head into winter? Or will you be driving home for Christmas when your train has been cancelled?

We recently wrote to all train operators seeking assurances as we approach the winter months that services will be on time. We continue to see operators making short term cancellations, issuing ‘do not travel’ messages and using rail replacement buses.

Given that passengers have long endured industrial relations challenges resulting in multiple strikes and reduced timetables, it is vital that the industry is well prepared to deliver punctuality in the months ahead.

When rail passengers are disrupted or encounter significant delays of any kind, we want to see every step being taken by train operators and the wider rail industry to ensure disruptions are kept to a minimum.

Look out for more information on engineering works on the rail network and the impacts on passengers in the December issue of Transport User Voice.
