Smart ticketing – Oxford SmartZone

This report, the second in a wide-ranging research programme on smart ticketing, considers the Oxford SmartZone. This initiative across bus operators in the city, introduced in 2011, includes a smartcard system alongside improved routing and timetabling. SmartZone is generally acknowledged as being a successful smartcard scheme, so we have carried out a case study in order to understand the reasons for this.
