All clear on the Tyne?

Spent a very useful day seeing some of the transport operations in and around Newcastle. Certainly much talk of tough economic times with the City Council really under spending pressures. However, good quality bus services and considerable ongoing debate about the nature of relations between the operators and local authorities. There is much evidence of investment in the Metro – refurbished trains (with fierce heaters!), station improvements and new ticket machines and gates. The track upgrade is testing how information is put out during disruption and the use of social media to get information out seemed good. Best of all? Really positive, engaged staff wherever you go – the bedrock of good public transport.
