Blackspots of the British Transport System number 23?

Stockport.

Named by Lord Adonis and the station champions crew as one of the worst. I’d never been there before (except when going through on the way to Manchester) but, following a signal failure, got stranded there last Friday.

On a cursory inspection it did not seem that bad at platform level. It is certainly spacious, and the canopies are long-ish so you didn’t get drizzled on. I’ll have to get off there next time and have a proper look around. Also given that Virgin has had a long franchise why would the station still be in a poor state? I thought longer franchises were meant to deal with problems like that and I am aware that Virgin has put some money in…
