Bright spots of the British transport system

13 October 2010

A friend is over from Germany. Travelling off peak, booking in advance (but not much), Internet savvy gets £25 advance ticket from Grantham to Balham and £23 odd advance ticket on Virgin and Northern to Manchester Airport. Very happy bunny! Longer distance train travel, if you can book ahead and be very specific about your train, can be very good value for money indeed. However, interesting hearing from her about German railways – you have to book in advance, if more than one person travelling cheaper to take the car, very expensive if you turn up and go… all sounds very familiar.
