Bus shelter ad income – funding better services?

Interesting presentation from Poole Borough Council about how they have a contract with Clear Channel whereby the advertising revenue off bus shelters funds the real time information inside the shelters – there is some Better Bus Funding money involved in the capital renewal of the shelters as well, but the advertising revenue covers the council’s ongoing costs.

The speaker mentioned other authorities where the advertising revenue, quite sizeable sums, goes into general coffers and is ‘lost’ to passengers (his words).

Quality for bus passengers without having to pay for it?
