The announcement every passenger fears: “..the 1423 to Paddington will arrive in five minutes, it is full and standing". A groan along the platform - luckily I had a seat reserved but lots of people were clearly standing for long distances. Real shame no staff appeared to try and help – it turned quite nasty as people jostled for space. First class and the restaurant car half empty as usual. How long can this go on? Charging people for a sub-standard service – free up a first class carriage, even if for one journey. More initiative please.
